Celebrating Birthdays

In the past, families have been kind enough to share sweets or other treats in celebration of their child’s birthday.  We would love to continue celebrating birthdays, but with the rise in different dietary requirements, and to foster a healthy lifestyle, we are changing our practice.  From now on, we would ask you to share a new book with the class instead.  Any sweets or treats sent in will be returned to you with thanks.  The children love books and stories and love reading together – what better than sharing a book donated for someone’s birthday?

You can choose any age appropriate book you like.  This can be a new release that you may have seen in any shop or online, or a classic that you have enjoyed reading at home or when you were young - anything goes.

If you would like some suggestions, 'Books for Topics' have put together lists of 50 recommended books for children of different ages that may help you.  The booklists include both fiction and non-fiction recommendations aimed at developing children’s vocabulary, comprehension skills and creativity.  The linked pages are for information purposes and books can be purchased from anywhere you choose.

Any donations should be brought into the class, where a special birthday sticker will be inserted inside the front cover.  The book will be shared with the class and put in the class library for everyone to read.
